HOW TO TAKE YOUR OWN NEWBORN PHOTOS
Have you just had or are you expecting a baby during lockdown? If so, I’ve got 5 tips to help you take your own newborn photos at home.
1. Natural light
Light can make or break a photo – consider when and where your home gets the best natural light. Choose to take your photos mid-morning by a window that doesn’t have direct sunlight. Also make sure you turn off all lights so the window is the only light source.
2. Get a sleepy baby
Aim for a sleepy baby – make sure baby has a good feed before you start and be prepared for top ups.
3. Keep it simple
Keep the poses simple – take a peek at my portfolio on my blog for my natural relaxed poses. Once in position make sure you don’t shoot up the nostrils and don’t forget the details including the tiny toes and fingers.
4. Use a self-timer
Use your camera or phone’s self timer to get in your own photos with baby. When I take newborn photos I always include parents with baby and siblings, these are just as special as the solo newborn photos.
5. Take lots of photos
Take lots of photos – one of them is sure to be ‘the shot’!
