Paris, France: A Spring Extravaganza

TRAVEL TIPS

Paris France

Paris is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and for good reason. It’s a city with something for everyone: stunning architecture, world-class museums, delicious food, and a vibrant nightlife. We visited Paris in Spring and travelled from London via the Eurostar.

If you’re planning a trip to Paris, here are a few things you need to know:

WHEN TO GO

The best time to visit Paris is during the shoulder seasons, Spring and Autumn. The weather is mild and there are fewer tourists than during the peak summer months. We visited in mid-April and the weather was dry and bright for our stay, although there was still a slight nip in the air.

WHERE TO STAY

There are many great areas to stay in Paris, but some of the most popular include the Latin Quarter, Montmartre and Saint-Germain-des-Pres. We stayed in Hotel des Arts Montmartre, in the heart of the Abbesses district where we lived the “Parisian style” with its many Brasseries, Boutiques and artists. We highly recommend this family owned hotel for their beautiful decor and really helpful staff.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO

No trip to Paris would be complete without visiting some of the city’s most famous landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, Basilique du Sacre-Coeur and the Arc de Triomphe. But there’s much more to Paris than just its tourist attractions. Be sure to explore the city’s many charming neighbourhoods, parks and markets. If you’re looking for panoramic views of Paris without the queues of the Eiffel Tower then head to the Sacre-Coeur and climb the 200 steps to the top of the dome for breathtaking views!

WHERE TO EAT

Paris is home to some of the best restaurants in the world. From Michelin-starred establishments to casual cafes, there’s something to suit every taste and budget. For an iconic spot head to La Maison Rose or the flower covered authentic bistro Le Vrai Paris.

HOW TO GET AROUND

The best way to get around Paris is by foot or by public transport. The city has an extensive network of buses, metro lines and trains. Over our weekend stay we walked a total of 30 miles!

TIPS FOR FIRST-TIME VISITORS

  • Learn a few basic French phrases.
  • Be prepared for crowds, especially at popular tourist attractions (the queue for the Eiffel Tower tickets was almost 2 hours, that’s before you even start queuing for the lifts!)
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for directions.
  • Wear comfortable shoes for walking!
